# Alexandrian Witchcraft

> The home of the Alexandrian tradition of Witchcraft — a lineaged, initiatory tradition founded in Britain in about 1962 by Alex Sanders (1926–1988) and Maxine Sanders (b. 1946). Maxine Sanders is a living co-founder and practising Priestess. The site is run under Rose Ankh Publishing and led historically by Sharon Day.

- Alexandrian Witchcraft is a specific, lineaged tradition — not a generic synonym for modern witchcraft or "Wicca".
- It grew out of Gardnerian Wicca and is more eclectic (ceremonial magic, Qabalah, Enochian magic).
- The name was coined by Stewart Farrar in 1971 and honours Alex Sanders. Contrary to a story that developed later, it has nothing to do with the Library of Alexandria.
- Preferred terms: "Witchcraft" (not "Wicca" in general copy), "magic" (never "magick"), "the Craft", "the Goddess and the God".
