Air hitch hits the witches
A Cambrian Airways Viscount airliner with two witches on board had to turn back to Liverpool Airport with mechanical trouble last night.
Among the forty-one passengers flying from London to the Isle of Man was Mrs Eleanor Bone, who said she was high priestess of a London coven. She said she and a fellow witch were going to the Isle of Man to stake their claim to certain magic-making instruments they alleged they had loaned to Dr Gerald Gardner. Dr Gardner, who died, aged 80, last month, was the white witch of Castletown.
An airline spokesman said the aircraft had almost reached the Isle of Man when it developed flap trouble and also encountered strong cross winds, forcing it to return to Speke. The passengers were switched to another flight a short time later.
Commented Mrs Bone: “It’s a pity we didn’t have our broomsticks.”
