During the ceremony, the first witchcraft wedding in Britain for 200 years, their hands were bound together and their wrists cut so their blood mingled. High priest of covens Sanders is high priest of three covens of witches in the Midlands, and Maxine is queen of a coven. The ceremony, in front of a low black altar covered with red cloth and with brass cups, daggers and a whip on it, was performed by Paul King, 22, an elder of a coven. “For the child's sake” Sanders said after the ceremony: “We do not need any additional blessing for our marriage, but if we have a child we will probably then have a register office ceremony - for the child's sake only.”
