The Rev. A. C. Robertson “Just a gimmick”
AMONG a large audience watching a black magic ritual in Ilkeston on Saturday was the Rev. A. C. Robertson, Vicar and Rural Dean of Ilkeston, who described the show afterwards as “harmless entertainment.”
No evil spirits made their appearance, although Alex Saunders – self-styled European “King of Witches” - had earlier said they might.
Mr. Robertson, a nonbeliever in black magic, said he went along because he respected the opinions of others and thought the Black Widow Group who put on the show at the Co-operative Hall were “interesting, intelligent people.”
“The black magic aspect, to me, was just a gimmick,” he said.
