Daily Express, Saturday 7 March 1970, page 14, in Martin Jackson's television column. A preview of the next night's Simon Dee show on ITV at 11.30pm, which the column says is turning to 'mystery, magic, and mind-readings'. The guest list 'reads like an invitation to a witches brew': Vincent Price, Dennis Wheatley and Alex Sanders, 'the self-styled King Witch and head of 107 covens'. The archive holds the News of the World's reports of 15 and 22 March 1970 on Sanders's television appearances. How to cite: Martin Jackson, 'Tricks', Daily Express, 7 March 1970, p. 14. [From Martin Jackson’s column] Tricks This time last year, when ITV was going through its worst viewing slump, David Nixon in the same time slot had pushed up the London audience from 19 to 22 per cent. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but Mr. Dee is taking a card out of the Nixon box of tricks and devoting his programmes to mystery, magic, and mind-readings. Tomorrow (ITV, 11.30 p.m.) he is conjuring up a guest list that reads like an invitation to a witches brew: Vincent Price, the Hollywood horror star; Dennis Wheatley, novelist of the black arts; and Alex Sanders, the self-styled King Witch and head of 107 covens.
