Frontispiece from The Mysterious Cobbler, 1935, captioned "Arthur Spray, Cobbler". Spray stands in the doorway of his workshop in a long apron over a collarless shirt and tie, one hand resting on a wooden bench, shelves of mended shoes beside him and a lathe or bench frame in front. He was a Bexhill cobbler who worked as a hypnotic healer alongside his trance medium, Alice, and whose story had been serialised in the Sunday Dispatch before the book appeared. He said that he was not a Spiritualist. The museum's list identifies the picture as the book frontispiece and places the shop in Station Road. Bexhill Museum item 020.
