About this item

Photograph, 23 April 1975. Photographic print from the Bexhill Observer's coverage of the ceremony reported on 26 April 1975. The unrobed blond man the paper described as a black magician bends over coven members lying on the floor of the temple, one in a pale robe and one in a dark shining robe, taking their hands. A figure in check trousers moves in the background. The museum lists the print as 'Black magician and hypnotised witches'. The paper's printed caption for this picture reads 'the black magician attempts to raise the girls from the floor', and its report says Sanders left the room as this happened. Byline: Jimmy Burke. Bexhill Museum item 102. Print from the Bexhill Observer photographic archive at Bexhill Museum. Shown in UNSEEN: The Alex Sanders Archive at Bexhill Museum, Part Two, What the Town Did With It (26 August 2026), presented by Julian Porter of Bexhill Museum and hosted by Sharon Day for Alexandrian Witchcraft.
