About this item

Herald Express, Torquay, Thursday 31 October 1968, page 11. A preview of that evening's Hallowe'en edition of Westward Television's Westward Diary, in which the 'King of the Witches' is interviewed by John Doyle. Alex Sanders, spelled Saunders throughout, is travelling to Plymouth from London with his young wife and their baby, who the paper says had been initiated into witchcraft at a 'baptismal ceremony' three months earlier. He will show the black-handled knife and other regalia and talk about the history of Hallowe'en, 'traditionally the only night when witches can converse with spirits of the dead', and the rite his coven will hold later in London. He is said to claim several covens in the South-West. How to cite: 'Witch man on TV', Herald Express, 31 October 1968, p. 11. Alexandrian Witchcraft Timeline & Archive.

A man who is one of the leading exponents of witch-craft in Britain and who claims to have several covens in the South-West is interviewed in the Hallowe'en edition of Westward TV “Westward Diary” tonight. He is Alex Saunders, a Northcountry man who now lives in London, and he will be travelling to Plymouth with his young wife and six-month-old baby - who was initiated into witchcraft at a “baptismal ceremony” three months ago. Alex Saunders will be showing the witch ceremony black - handled knife with many other pieces of regalia. He will talk to interviewer John Doyle about the history of Hallowe'en,… traditionally the only night when witches can converse with spirits of the dead, and about the ceremonial rite he and his coven will celebrate later in London.
