Bexhill Chronicle, 3 January 1920. Report of the death on 23 December 1919 of Angelo Lewis, MA, of Manningford, Bolebrooke Road, Bexhill, at the age of eighty. Lewis wrote as Professor Hoffmann and was the author of Modern Magic, More Magic, Later Magic and Latest Magic, the textbooks by which most conjurers of the period learned. He had lived in Bexhill for nearly four years, previously at St Leonards, was an expert chess player and a member of the Bexhill Chess Club, and had been an invalid for some months. An appreciation of his work, signed J.W.F., follows the notice and calls him the Grand Old Man of Magic. Bexhill Museum item 016.
