'Pageant and Witch Trial are Planned', Bexhill Observer, 2 September 1961

Bexhill Observer, 2 September 1961. Report that the Bexhill Round Table were to hold an historic event for charity the following Saturday, based on the witch trial of 1780. A pageant procession would leave the West Parade at about a quarter past seven, with local societies invited to take part in dress of that date, and a re-enactment of the trial would follow, staged by the Bexhill Amateur Theatrical Society. The paper explains that no local record could be found, and that the Round Table traced the account through the British Museum to the Morning Post of 28 January 1780; it then prints the 1780 report in full. A fair, a roast, witch foolery, the burning of an effigy and fireworks were to conclude the evening. Bexhill Museum item 035.
