About this item

Handwritten card, 1975. Ruled index card carrying the draft caption for the Bexhill Observer's photographs of the ceremony at Chantry Cottage, as published on 26 April 1975. The text describes 'exclusive' photographs of a ceremony in which Alex Sanders 'matches his powers against a black magician', involving a teenage girl 'whom each of the two men was trying to influence', and notes that Sanders left the temple soon after the picture of him holding the young woman's hand was taken. The museum lists it as 'Card as above 1975', that is, the card belonging to the prints 096 to 109. Numbered 42 in the museum's photograph sequence. Bexhill Museum item 110. Bexhill Observer cutting held in the Bexhill Observer archive at Bexhill Museum. Shown in UNSEEN: The Alex Sanders Archive at Bexhill Museum, Part Two, What the Town Did With It (26 August 2026), presented by Julian Porter of Bexhill Museum and hosted by Sharon Day for Alexandrian Witchcraft.
