'Man They Call "King of the Witches"', Sussex Life, c.1980

Sussex Life, June issue, c.1980, pages 52 and 53, photocopy. Interview with Alex Sanders by Vida Herbison, with photographs by Roy Vandyke. The writer describes meeting Sanders by chance in the bar of an old coaching inn in a 'highly-respectable seaside resort', and gives a long account of his life as he told it to her: his childhood in Manchester, initiation by his grandmother, his early marriage, spiritualist healing, his later coven with Maxine and his crowning as King of the Witches in 1965. It closes with Sanders living 'in an ancient house with his beautifully-behaved Alsatian dog and some of his coven', taking no pupil under eighteen. The full-page photograph shows his face framed by his ringed hands; smaller pictures show him in the temple and outdoors with the dog. The life story is Sanders' own account to the magazine.
