'Occult shop to open in town', Bexhill Observer, 10 October 1981

Bexhill Observer, 10 October 1981. Ben Findon reports that the London-based Church of the Occult Science intended to open a shop in Sackville Road by the end of the month, selling books, candles and incense and, according to its spokesman Alan Collins, acting as a contact centre where 'exorcisms will be carried out'. The Rural Dean, the Rev Stanley Cann, had visited the organisation's premises in Lewisham Way, New Cross. A boxed piece, 'Deep concern', prints the resolution passed by the Bexhill Council of Churches appealing to the leaseholder not to proceed. The same page carries 'No sex please', on local opposition to a proposed Conegate sex shop. Alex Sanders is not mentioned; his response came on 17 October, item 147. Byline: Ben Findon.
