'Satanic witches in Sidley woods rituals?', Bexhill Observer, 17 July 1982

Bexhill-on-Sea Observer, Saturday 17 July 1982, front page. Under the banner headline and the subheading 'Local white witch claims group aims to invoke demon', the paper reports Alex Sanders' claim that a newly formed group of black witches in Bexhill was trying to evoke the demon Asmodeus, citing an inverted cross and a circled 'A' carved on a tree in woods at Sidley, a triangle of fire and a four-foot wand of holly. Sanders says he will use his powers and 'the laws of the land' to stop them. The piece introduces Derek Taylor as Sanders' 'pupil and secretary', carrying a handwritten file of the messages Sanders relays to him. Two photographs show the carved symbol and a hand beside it; the prints are items 150 and 151. Alan Chappell's rebuttal followed on 31 July, item 152. Bexhill Museum item 149.
