Photograph, 17 July 1982. Alex Sanders stands among birch trees and undergrowth in a striped jumper and cord trousers, holding upright a long wand of holly whose top is bent into an intertwined loop, his other hand raised with the index finger pointing upward. Taken for the Bexhill Observer's front-page report of 17 July 1982, item 149, which described 'a four foot wand of holly fashioned into an intertwined loop with a cross member' found near the carved symbols. The museum lists the print as 'Alex with Death Wand', the phrase reflecting Sanders' reading of the object; Alan Chappell told the paper on 31 July that it more likely had an agricultural purpose.
