Bexhill Observer, 31 July 1982. Alan Chappell, described as having spent twenty years studying the history of witchcraft and the occult, 'including ten years as a pupil of the White Witch of Old Town', rejects Alex Sanders' claim of 17 July that symbols found in woods at Sidley were evidence of Satanic ritual. He says the marks are anarchist symbols of a kind found across Europe and North America, and that the holly wand more likely had an agricultural purpose. He states that he is not a witch and not a member of any coven, and that a planned visit to the woods with a representative of 'the Cooden coven' fell through.
