About this item

Bexhill Observer, 7 March 1985. Two linked front-page pieces by Patrick Balchin. 'Magic!' reports that local witches had met on the Tuesday night to lift the curse on the BLODS production, and quotes Kevin Carlyon, from Hastings, saying Alex Sanders is not recognised by Wicca and that 'the King should retire before he is retired'. 'Cast spell of doom' carries producer Irene Spillett's rebuttal of Gillian Sanders' claim that four cast members had left, her own account of the row, and her remark: 'I did not think that I could be as good a publicist as I have turned out to be.' The full report of the counter-ceremony is item 167. Byline: Patrick Balchin. Bexhill Museum item 166. Bexhill Observer cutting held in the Bexhill Observer archive at Bexhill Museum. Shown in UNSEEN: The Alex Sanders Archive at Bexhill Museum, Part Three, The Vacant Throne (6 September 2026), presented by Julian Porter of Bexhill Museum and hosted by Sharon Day for Alexandrian Witchcraft.
