About this item

Bexhill Observer, 7 March 1985. Inside-page report by Patrick Balchin, pictures by Jimmy Burke, headed 'Revealed . . . the secret rites of witches' coven'. Four followers of Wicca, given only as Kevin, Jane, Tony and Alistair, one of them a former member of Sanders' coven, met in an attic room in a Bexhill flat that had once belonged to Sanders and set up a magic circle with daggers pointing at the previous week's front page. The reporter describes the circle being cast, the choice of 'justice' over revenge, and a binding chant, after which the curse was said to have been reversed back onto Sanders. The four are not named in full here; the front page, item 166, names Kevin Carlyon. Photographs from the evening are items 168 to 171. A related picture of Sanders in his crown is item 172, not in this batch. Byline: Patrick Balchin; pictures Jimmy Burke. Bexhill Museum item 167. Bexhill Observer cutting held in the Bexhill Observer archive at Bexhill Museum. Shown in UNSEEN: The Alex Sanders Archive at Bexhill Museum, Part Three, The Vacant Throne (6 September 2026), presented by Julian Porter of Bexhill Museum and hosted by Sharon Day for Alexandrian Witchcraft.
