About this item
Typed account, four pages, 1988, signed by Kevin Carlyon and supplied to the Bexhill Observer after Alex Sanders' death; the paper's report of 5 May 1988, item 182, draws on it. Carlyon records that Sanders died at St Helen's Hospital, Hastings, at 6.30am on 30 April 1988, after treatment for lung cancer, and that he, Ingrid Carlyon and Derek Taylor interviewed Sanders at length in his last week for a book. He gives his own account of Sanders' life, the 1985 curse, which he says Sanders admitted was a joke, the marriage to 'Jill' and its ending, and the move to St Leonards in 1986. Page two reproduces questions and answers in which Sanders says the kingship was 'bestowed upon me by my followers in 1965' and that he was initiated by Crowley in 1936. Page four states that Sanders wished his son Victor to be crowned his successor and that Maxine Sanders did not agree. Everything here is Carlyon's account or Sanders' claims as reported by him.
Bexhill Museum item 183 to 186. Bexhill Observer cutting held in the Bexhill Observer archive at Bexhill Museum.
