1666 Dear Alex, I have been thinking about you recently and thought I'd drop a line. I trust that you and yours are doing well. Please give my regards to them. As for myself, I have never been more happy. My boyfriend/lover, and I have just celebrated our first year anniversary together earlier this month. His name is Geoff, he is 28 and an Aquarian. He works at the Veterans Administration Hospital as a lab technician. About the only thing we have in common is a love of music and cooking, but for some reason we seem to be made for each other. He is not a pagan nor even remotely religious, yet he has an interest in things metaphysical and is very sympathetic to my "witchy" leanings. I feel so fortunate to have finally found someone compatible and loving to share my life with. For a while, I had been involved with a Wicca "study group" here in Santa Monica, but towards the end, all of the other male members left for one reason or another, leaving just me and four women. As the circle was basically matriarchally oriented to begin with, I felt that without the support of the other male energies, the group was terribly unbalanced. Therefore I decided to leave the group and study alone again until I locate a tradition closer to my own (Alexandrian/Gardnerian). When I last saw you, you were very much involved with Mayan/Aztec magickal traditions. Are you still pursuing that path, or are you learning something new? My Tarot studies are still going strong, although I've been feeling the urge to break into some other form of divination. Well Alex, I seem to have run out of room. Please write when you have the time and think of me, or at least drop a note to let me know how you are doing. Love and blessed be, Ravenstar Notes: - "Magickal" (with the added "k") is a deliberate spelling convention popularized by the occultist Aleister Crowley in the early 20th century, used to distinguish ceremonial/ritual magic from stage conjuring. It is widely used across Wiccan and ceremonial magic writing generally, not unique to this letter. - "Alexandrian/Gardnerian" refers to the two major branches of British Traditional Wicca: the Alexandrian tradition founded by Alex Sanders himself, and the earlier Gardnerian tradition founded by Gerald Gardner. - References Alex's involvement in "Mayan/Aztec magickal traditions" — not otherwise documented elsewhere in this collection, but consistent with Alex's broadly syncretic approach to ritual and mythology seen throughout (e.g. Egyptian, Kabbalistic, and classical references in other documents). - The Veterans Administration Hospital and the location "Santa Monica" place this letter's author in California, USA, consistent with the document's title. Authorship note: Straightforward single-author personal letter, signed with the name/title "Ravenstar." No diarist framing or mixed voice present.
