'Ancient ritual planned to halt bypass', Bexhill Observer, 3 August 1989

Bexhill Observer, 3 August 1989, under the strapline 'Witchcraft ceremony deplored by clergy'. Report that white witches led by Kevin Carlyon were to perform a ritual to save their regular meeting place, woodland in the Crowhurst Valley threatened by all three proposed routes for the new bypass. Carlyon told the paper the group had met there for over three years, that the ritual was based on ancient ceremonies and would involve the making of talismans and runic symbols, and that similar workings had preceded a change of route in Kent and the Fairlight cliff defence announcement. The Dean of Battle, the Very Reverend John Chater, said he deplored the idea, and the vicar of Crowhurst, the Reverend Dennis Taylor, was unhappy about it.
