'Witches battle to save marshes from the bypass', Bexhill Observer, 9 October 1991

Bexhill Observer, 9 October 1991. Report that Kevin and Ingrid Carlyon were taking up the fight to save Combe Haven Marshes, planning to distribute leaflets in the Bexhill area urging people to write to the Department of Transport about the proposed route for the Hastings and Bexhill bypass. The paper notes that the preferred Red Route would carry a concrete viaduct across the marshland, that part of Combe Haven is a site of special scientific interest, and that it holds the largest natural reedbed in Sussex. Their leaflet, Save The Marshes, calls the route 'An excellent short cut for drivers but sure death to many species'. Describing themselves as practitioners of earth magic, the Carlyons claimed earlier successes in local conservation campaigns and said further rituals were planned for the protection of the valley.
