'Witch guide to tax', Bexhill Observer, 29 March 1990

Bexhill Observer, 29 March 1990. Report that white witches completed their rituals against the poll tax by casting an effigy of Margaret Thatcher into the sea at Galley Hill. Effigies of individual councillors were not made, but Kevin Carlyon of the Covenant of Earth Magic said the whole council would suffer from the bad feeling created by the tax, and that this was not black magic but a 'rebound effect', where harm caused bounces back. Twenty followers of Earth Magic attended, and the start was delayed when a minibus broke down. The working ended a series that included throwing an effigy from cliffs at Hastings and burning another at Wilmington on the night of the spring equinox. Councillor Ivor Brampton, a supporter of the poll tax, told the paper he did not take the witches seriously. Not the Alexandrian coven. Bexhill Museum item 207.
